🌐 A Unified Approach to Sustainability
Just some of the bits and pieces factories need to comply with...

Did you know factories in the apparel, leather, textile and footwear industries have a number of tests, programs and requirements they need to comply with every year in order to be deemed efficeint and sustainable by some of the biggest players in the business?

A collaborative effort to overcome these challenges saw Cascale, Apparel Impact Institute (Aii) and ZDHC introducing groundbreaking initiatives: the Data Matrix and the Factory Improvement Journey.

While the context of location and industry need to come into play when deciding on how each factory can improve methods and systems - there is no one measurement to help make this happen. If you think back to when we couldn't measure calories or when we had no clue how to tell the time, you will understand better how inefficient this can be for the people on the ground, making this trillion dollar industry work.

This initiative unifies existing programs and establishes a tailored roadmap for factories, ensuring regional adaptability while maintaining global alignment.
how we desribed the initative to key stakeholders...

Creating a measurement called the Data Matrix, the project aimed to unify a way to measure energy efficiency, wastewater management, chemical usage, waste and air emissions to be used in a program called the Factory Improvement Journey.
It's a long way from line sheets and collection reviews - but the Data Matrix and the Factory Improvement Journey is set to redefine the way we measure, improve and maintain efficiency amongst factories the world over.
A pilot program involving over 100 factories across Vietnam, Cambodia, Bangladesh and other regions validated the framework. Stakeholders emphasized the importance of structured tools that align with industry standards and sustainability goals, reinforcing the need for continuous refinement of these initiatives.

We were lucky enough to bring this five year project to light, taking hundreds of documents, graphs and case studies to unite stakeholders together through a story that is easy to digest and able to be understood by people from all parts of the fashion, textile and footwear worlds.

Thanks to everyone for letting us be a part of something so incredibily important for the future of this industry and the world.
